THE LATIN TOUCH

Margaret Scruby Paraguayan Harp

Jorge Carrillo Spanish Guitar

Phillip Goss Percussion

Recorded at Apple Tree Studios, Ludgershall, Bucks

This is Margaret Scruby's first CD of Paraguayan harp music. She began playing this instrument as a teenager when she spent a year working in Asunción, Paraguay. She first had harp lessons with her friend Hilary Barratt of Los Picaflores, then Cristino Baez Monges and Feliciano Peralta.

After returning to England she trained to be a nurse and then married a research scientist and had four children. In recent years she has taken up the harp again and received lessons from Bill Morgan.

The Paraguayan harp is a rare instrument in Britain. It is light and portable and the strings are made of nylon. It is played with the fingernails, which give it an exciting and powerful sound. This CD contains some of the most popular Latin American pieces for harp. Jorge Carrillo on guitar adds rhythm to the arrangements. Margaret's sister, Rosemary, and Bill join her for the last track Bell Bird.

This CD contains a wide range of Latin American music played on the Paraguayan harp. Although the majority are from Paraguay, there are also tunes from Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador. This CD is excellent value for money, with over an hour's music. You can listen to one of the tracks, Cascada , if you have an mp3 player such as Winamp. The full list of tracks is as follows:
